Our Story

Barrier Island Preservation Alliance (BIPA) was formed on March 17, 2021, as a non-profit corporation, with the intent to file under IRC Section 501(c)(4). We came together as neighbors for neighborhoods, formed by residents, for residents. The funds raised by the organization were utilized for public relations, legal services, and lobbyists to help advocate for residents at the state level.

While the original, stated mission of BIPA did not change, in January 2022, the focus shifted from advocating for a single purpose to advocating for all residents, both primary homeowners and second homeowners of Isle of Palms. By the end of 2021, all contracts with public relations, legal, and lobbyist firms were terminated.

Since January 2023, our goal has been to Educate, Advocate, and Communicate. In late 2023, BIPA filed all required documentation to be recognized as a charitable organization with the Internal Revenue Service under IRC Section 501(c)(3). In June 2024, the request was granted.
